Veterans Memorial Stadium one day after a snowstorm dumped half a foot of snow on Cedar Rapids late last week.
Judging by the high number of hits on my last blog post, “Snowbound Stadiums of the Midwest League,” it appears I’m not the only baseball fan who likes seeing photos of ballparks after a heavy snow. There is something about the pristine nature of untouched snow blanketing a baseball stadium that seems pure while at the same time reminding us that even though it’s winter, spring and the start of another baseball season are not far away.
Anyway, last week I asked readers to send me photos of snowbound minor-league stadiums, and yesterday I received several from Jim Crikket, one of the authors of the Twins blog “Knuckleballs.” He sent me photos of snowbound Veterans Memorial Stadium, home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels. You can see one of his photos at the top of this post, and see more on his blog here. Thanks, Jim!
Do you have a photo of a snowbound baseball stadium you want to share? Email it to me at mwltraveler@gmail.com.
*sigh* As one of the other Knuckleballs authors, I have to admit that I’m just a little jealous. Minnesota hasn’t gotten crap for snow this year. I literally can still see grass outside my window and it’s not just because we had a thaw… I’m sure it will come eventually though. *crosses fingers*
